The Most Powerful Influencer: Your Vote! by Laraine Schwartz

Lifetime appointments for Supreme Court Justices are heavily debated and a heated topic in our country. Recent decisions from the high court demonstrate a regression on immigration and the environment.

The most frightening scenario that faces us today is the potential for a conservative-majority bench for the next 20 to 30 years!

We all remember when Mitch McConnell blocked President Obama’s Supreme Court nominee, Merrick Garland. This unprecedented and unfair political maneuver should have been legally challenged. It wasn’t; and now, the President has named Brett Kavanaugh as his nominee to replace Justice Kennedy, and fear of the future weighs heavily on our minds.

We can only hope that Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg remains on the bench for years to come and continues to stand for justice, fairness, and the rule of law per the Constitution of the United States.

So much is at stake!

  • Privacy issues;
  • LGBTQ rights;
  • Civil Rights;
  • Voting rights; and
  • Women’s rights.

On this last point, President Trump has said he will only appoint Justices who will help reverse Roe v. Wade — significantly curtailing women’s rights and privacy rights for everyone.

So what can we do? VOTE! And remember the President of the United States selects lifelong SCOTUS appointments that will determine outcomes on major issues that affect each and every American citizen for years to come.

Do not take for granted your rights as a citizen. Make sure you VOTE!
